Some good thoughts about the "religious right"

Joe Carter over at the Evangelical Outpost has some good thoughts on what it means to be on the "religious right". My favorite is this one:

We must keep in mind that term “religious right” encompasses two spectrums. Because of our commitment to the faith, we will often find ourselves in agreement with the religious left. And because our conservatism is informed by our religion, we will find also find ourselves in disagreement with the secular right.

Our political alliances, therefore, will often be tenuous and shift based on particular issues. For example, at the Washington Briefing, Richard Land said that he’d vote for a Jewish pro-life politician who promised to raise his taxes before he’d vote a Christian pro-choice candidate who promised to cut them. The rousing applause he received would be as disturbing to most Republicans as it would to most Democrats.

Good stuff. I've got a couple more links from EO that I'm going to be posting in the next few days.

Let's Get Them Back Together

Why?
Because it's easier to track them if they are all in the same place. If enough money is raised, can we buy some for the Happy-Fun Gang from Pyongyang?

Seriously?

That's All You've Got?
According to this link on Drudge, North Korea was aiming for Hawaii when it's missle fell apart. We need to be taking Captain Insano seriously, but not his technology. I don't think we really need the missle defense system for this. Somebody with a pea shooter and a strong tailwind could take it down.

What We Need To Do
I agree with what President Bush has said about how we need to get a group of nations together in order to definitively tell North Korea that they can't continue to do this. That group of nations does NOT need to be the United Nations though. To steal a line from Mark Cuban, I wouldn't trust the UN to manage a Dairy Queen, much less to respond to the Happy-Fun Gang from Pyongyang. What the United States needs to do is sit back at the table and let Japan, China, and Russia take the lead on this. Make sure that it is readily apparent that we are more than willing to back up those countries. We need to allow someone else to take the front seat on this. Too long we've been up front. Let's take a backseat for a bit and let them sort it out. If it gets to hot for them, we'll drop in and play the heavy.

Introduction

I want to welcome everyone to my new blog. (Yes, I've had one for a while, but more on that later.) For those who don't know me, let me tell you a bit about myself.

Who I Am
I'm 29, have been married for nearly 10 years, have a 4 year old daughter and a 3 year old son. I grew up on a farm in south central Kansas, and love my midwestern roots. That's the strange thing about being a native Kansan. You're not Southern, you're not a Yankee, you're just a Kansan.

Education
I'm a graduate of Rogers State University in Claremore, OK where I received a BS in Business Information Technology. I work for a public safety software company, though I am also attempting to start my own software/computer services company, SkyProphet. I will be starting graduate school this fall through Tarleton State University, majoring in Information Systems.

Interests
Obviously, I'm a computer geek. I also study meteorology (one year into the meterology program at the University of Oklahoma before I had to quit because I just didn't have enough time), have a Technician class amateur radio license, am a storm spotter, hold three FEMA certifications for Emergency Management, and love watching sports (I'm a guy). Favorite teams include the Kansas State Wildcats, San Antonio Spurs, Texas Rangers, and I'm currently looking for a team to follow in the English Premiership. (Thinking about Chelsea, but don't want to be a bandwagon fan.)

Personal and Family
In addition to all this I occasionally lead worship at church, am the youth director and Sunday School teacher, and my wife and I lead a home group. Our kids go to a university model private Christian school where my wife also teaches. We are huge Disney fans and try to get to Walt Disney World every year, though it's looking like every other year is more likely. I love reading, though my interests usually lie in Star Wars, Harry Potter, Christian living, small business and entreprenuer, and some other fiction.

Why I'm Writing
I want to get ideas out. I want to contribute to the Great Conversation. I want to be a part of something bigger than my little town.  I'm not the best writer, but what I do post, I believe completely. I welcome criticism as it helps me to sharpen my beliefs. If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit that too.

Why I'm Moving
Why did I move it over from my original site at claywginn.com? Well, to be honest, I'm hoping to get some new readership. It's all about exposure.

Vain?

Absolutely.

I'm not really content with posting just about daily happenings at home. I know my family still wants to see pictures of the kids, and they will still get their wish. However, most of my postings are going to be over here now.
